Setting Health Goals
Setting health goals: How do you want to feel?
As seasons change, it seems to be the time that we check in with ourselves to determine where we are in comparison to where we envisioned ourselves a couple of months ago. As a personal trainer, my health intake form includes a health history with questions that covers everything from previous illnesses & injuries, as well as current diseases. I must take it all into consideration when coming up with an exercise program for my clients. The question that provokes an answer that really interests me is, “How do you want to feel?” Maybe you have the vision of having more energy, a leaner body, clearer skin, running a marathon or becoming stronger. If you dial it in and work towards your goal, a few simple questions you may ask yourself could be,
“Will this move me closer to my goal?”
“How will this make me feel?”
When you pair your goal with the emotional effect of how reaching that goal will make you feel, it will have a stronger impact and you’re much more likely to achieve it. It is a question that you will need to continue asking yourself until your behavior and new habits take you there without much effort or thought.
When you are confronted with a decision regarding that goal you can ask yourself 2 questions:
“How do I want to feel when I reach that goal?”
“Will my actions today help move the needle in that direction?”
Every little move in the right direction is a win! Little by little, a little becomes a lot!
