Super Gummies

IMG_2420.jpeg

These fun little gems remind me of my Jello days. Thinking of ways to include collagen into my diet aside from bone broth and collagen protein powders, I came up with this superfood gummy recipe and it has been fun and ever-evolving. No added sugar, no artificial colors or flavors, no preservatives, but plenty of health-promoting benefits!

Glycine, an amino acid found in collagen sources provide many benefits for our body including improving the health of our skin, hair & nails. Glycine can lower the risk of heart disease and other diseases, protects bones and joints and preserves muscle mass. It can also aid in weight loss, help blood sugar control, improve mental health and improve sleep. This article takes a deeper dive into the benefits of this important amino acid.

Prep Time: 10mins Cook Time: 8 mins Yields: 3-4 servings

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c. organic coconut water

6 TBSP grass-fed gelatin powder

1 TBSP honey

1 TSP salt

1 scoop (approx 2 TBSP) superfood powder(s) - sometimes I mix them up for different flavors. I especially love Organifi Red powder and Athletic Greens. I will even mix them.

Instructions

  1. Heat coconut water in saucepan until hot

  2. Slowly mix gelatin powder until dissolved

  3. Add honey and salt

  4. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

  5. Slowly add superfood powders

  6. Mix until powders are completely dissolved.

  7. Pour into a silicone mold or shallow pan. Chill for 1 hour or until set. Enjoy!

Options for this recipe: Plain water can be used instead of coconut water. You can add or subtract the amount of gelatin based on the consistency you desire. This recipe will create a very firm gummy consistency, but if you prefer a consistency that is more like Jello, you will want to use about 1/2 the amount of gelatin. The superfood powders are basically dehydrated and powdered greens and fruits. Several specific brands are suggested below, but the options are numerous. If you look outside of these recommendations, look for organic on the label.

Great option for dog treats: Use bone broth (or any soup broth) together with gelatin and prepare the recipe the same way. This has the same health benefits for them too!
